Al Kazeem Continues to Lead Cartier Horse Of The Year Standings

Al Kazeem (148) continues to lead on points the race for the Cartier Horse Of The Year Award and Cartier Older Horse Award despite defeats in the Red Mills Irish Champion Stakes on September 7.

Roger Charlton's five-year-old completed a memorable Group One hat-trick in the Last year's Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe second, Orfevre (32), trained in Japan by Yasutoshi Ikee, earned his first points this year with an impressive victory in the Qatar Prix Foy at Longchamp on September 15.

Irish handler Jim Bolger has a stranglehold at the moment on the Cartier Three-Year-Old Colt Award with Trading Leather holding a narrow verdict over last year's Cartier Two-Year-Old Colt Dawn Approach (112), who was last seen finishing fifth in the Prix du Haras de Fresnay-le-Buffard - Jacques le Marois at Deauville on August 11. Prix du Jockey Club winner Intello and Chicquita (64) in the Darley Irish Oaks at the Curragh in July.

Unbeaten Treve, trained by Criquette Head-Maarek, is also on 64 points after following up her Prix de Diane Longines success in June with an equally impressive performance in the Group One Qatar Prix Vermeille at Longchamp on September 15.

Gold Cup heroine Ahzeemah heads the chasing pack on 42 points after coming home second in the GAIN Irish St Leger, while Lethal Force holds a commanding lead over Society Rock (64) and Sole Power (53) for the Cartier Sprint Award.

The Richard Hannon-trained Toormore has moved into contention for the Cartier Two-Year-Old Colt Award after a front-running success over Sudirman (88) in the Group One Vincent O'Brien National Stakes at the Curragh on September 15. The son of Arakan is ed on 64 points by unbeaten US colt No Nay Never, who is unlikely to run again this year.

Rizeena (84) has established a clear lead in the race for the Cartier Two-Year-Old Filly Award after an impressive display in the Group One Moyglare Stud Stakes at the Curragh on September 1. The Clive Brittain-trained daughter of Ifraaj is well ahead of Group Two winners Tapestry and Vorda, who are both on 40 points.

Harry Herbert, Cartier's Racing Consultant, commented: "The top four on points for the Cartier Horse Of The Year Award have all met defeat on their last two starts and so there is plenty of scope for horses such as Novellist, Treve and Orfevre to further enhance their reputations.

"Therefore, the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe on October 6 could be particularly important in helping to decide the Cartier Horse Of The Year winner this year.

"There are lots more races at the highest level to be run, which means drama and excitement to come as far as the Cartier Racing Awards are concerned."
